Joel's paper online at IFAR

While 2025 has been a great year for the lab, we were very sad recently to have to say goodbye to our research specialist Joel, who started in October as a clinical research coordinator.

However, we are very happy that Joel's paper is now online at IFAR (Congrats Joel!  Great work!). This is a great paper that re-examines how Pseudomonas pyocyanin, an important virulence factor, affects airway epithelial cells. Contrary to prior work, cell lines are not a good model in which to study pyocyanin's effects. Primary cells behave very differently! Equally important, cells from cystic fibrosis patients behave differently than cells from non-CF patients. Excess ROS production makes CF cells more susceptible to the ciliotoxic effects of pyocyanin. Check out Joel's paper (available open access) to find out more (http://doi.org/10.1002/alr.70084):
