This comprehensive study revealed new and draggable pathways by which Pseudomonas aeruginosa metabolite and quorum sensing molecule 3-oxo-C12HSL induces host cell apoptosis. While further investigation is needed, based on this study we hypothesize that phamarcological inhibition of T2R14 or the mitochondrial calcium uniporter (MCU) might protect against host epithelial damage during Pseudomonas infections.
